The Philippine Basketball Association capped its golden‑anniversary season with a gala at the Solaire Grand Ballroom in Quezon City on 11 April, honoring ten players who complete the league’s list of 50 Greatest Players.

The ceremony rounded out a roll of honor first launched in 2000, when 25 pioneers were recognized, and expanded in 2015 with 15 more names. Friday’s additions bring the total to 50, spotlighting talent, charisma and impact across five decades of pro basketball.

Among the latest inductees is Barangay Ginebra guard Scottie Thompson, the 2022 Most Valuable Player, who earlier in the week renewed his partnership with ArenaPlus.

Thompson acknowledged online criticism of his selection but took it in stride.

"Actually, I don’t mind the negative thoughts much on social media, but I truly respect everyone’s thoughts and comments because this is a free world," he said. "I totally respect whatever they say. Those are their opinions; I have my own, they have their own, but it’s all about respect."

League officials also unveiled the campaign “Solid,” a long‑term vision that looks toward the PBA’s centennial.

“Back then, it was just an idea. But nine great teams believed in it. They took the risk. They made it real.” Commissioner Willie Marcial said.

Guests took home ArenaPlus and BingoPlus memorabilia from a night that drew current stars, alumni and sponsors. ArenaPlus is a major PBA sponsor, while BingoPlus backed the 50th‑anniversary program.

Both companies said they would continue supporting the league’s next milestone. “PBA’s 50 greatest players send a clear message that Filipino athletes remain ‘solid’ and ‘astig’ in sport,” ArenaPlus representatives noted.

The PBA returns to action later this month as clubs resume preparations for the season‑ending Governors’ Cup.
