LUGUS, Sulu — In a region long marked by clan feuds and armed conflict, a quiet shift toward peace is taking shape.
JOLO, Sulu — Local candidates in the municipality of Kalingalan Caluang have signed a peace covenant for orderly and honest elections in May.
Brig. Gen. Alaric Avelino Delos Santos said yesterday that the covenant was signed Friday at the headquarters of the Alpha Company of the 21st Infantry "Invincible" Battalion in Barangay Karundong, Kalingalang Caluang.
Delos Santos said the event, facilitated by Municipal Election Officer Benhaier Abducadil, aimed to foster an environment of unity and respect among candidates, their supporters, and the community.
Mayoral candidates Nushamier A. Halun, Nadzmie Julkarnain, and Jumalul Dats, representing Khan Dalawan, attended the event, along with candidates for councilor.
