Ahtisa Manalo officially announced her withdrawal from the municipal councilor race in Candelaria, Quezon, on Tuesday, 25 February, through her mother, Elsie, at a press conference organized by the Suayan-Maliwanag Leaders Manalo political party.
“This was not an easy decision,” Manalo said in a statement. “I was given an incredible opportunity to represent not just myself, but also our beloved town, as I compete in Miss Universe Philippines once again.”
She expressed her apologies to supporters for the sudden shift in plans but emphasized her commitment to bringing pride to Candelaria in a different way.
Although stepping away from politics, Manalo vowed to carry the name of her hometown on the national stage.
“I hope I can still count on your support and prayers as I aim to make our town proud,” she added.
Ahtisa Manalo is making a much-anticipated return to the Miss Universe Philippines competition, where she is currently representing the province of Quezon.
