Angkas CEO and Angkasangga Partylist first nominee George Royeca said on Tuesday he takes full responsibility for a recent traffic incident involving the company’s riders and will accept the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) decision regarding his driver’s license.
“I will make no excuses. I’ve always maintained the stance that there are no excuses for what happened,” Royeca said in an interview with DAILY TRIBUNE. “It is my organization, I have command and control. I’m held to the highest standard.”
To recall, the LTO on Monday suspended Royeca’s license after he took full responsibility for a viral motorcade of Angkas riders in Cainta, Rizal last 4 February. The video showed that Angkas riders blocked a section of the road, causing traffic delays, before participating in a unity ride on Marilaque Highway to promote responsible driving.
“Whatever decision the Land Transportation Office (LTO) makes regarding our case, we will fully respect and accept it,” Royeca said.
“Following the voluntary surrender of my license, we are prepared to face any consequences and adhere to due process. While we await the LTO’s decision, we remain committed to taking full accountability for our actions,” he added.
Royeca said he has not yet received official notification of the suspension beyond media reports and will await the regulators’ advice on next steps.
“If that’s the decision of the regulators, it’s better that it’s me than someone else because I am the leader of the organization,” Royeca said. “Our bikers are just following orders.”
“We have to be held to the highest standard, we have to undergo scrutiny, and even if I’m not running for public office, I am providing a service imbued with public interest, and we have always maintained that we subject ourselves to the highest scrutiny as long as everyone else is subjected to the highest scrutiny,” he added.
