Filipino content creator and celebrity chef Abi Marquez is among those mourning the passing of award-winning chef and restaurateur Margarita Forés.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Marquez shared a throwback photo of her encounter with Forés at a 2024 event, the same year she was recognized at the 28th Webby Awards.

"Must cook for you soon"—words I wish we had time for," Marquez wrote in her caption.

Marquez described Forés as one of her biggest inspirations in cooking.

"You were one of my biggest inspirations long before we met, and this moment meant the world to me. Thank you for your kindness, your legacy—the Cibo pizza you sent me last Sunday," she wrote, ending with a crying emoji.

"You left a mark on so many, especially Filipinas in the kitchen. Rest in power, Chef," she added.

Aside from Marquez, other personalities in the food and entertainment industries also paid tribute to Forés.

Actor and restaurateur Matteo Guidicelli shared his sadness over the loss of his mentor and friend.

"You will be deeply missed. We shared so many special moments together, and I will always be grateful for your encouragement and motivation, especially in the restaurant business. You were not just a mentor but a true friend—always a joy to be with. You will always and forever be the best," Guidicelli wrote.

Forés was named as Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2016, she was highly respected in the international restaurant industry. She also ran several successful restaurants and was the caterer of choice for visiting dignitaries.

Born into a prominent clan—the founders of Araneta Center in Quezon City—Forés initially pursued a corporate career in the U.S. before following her passion for cooking in her late 20s. She moved to Italy to immerse herself in its cuisine, which later defined her culinary style.

Her flagship restaurant, Cibo, opened in 1997 and revolutionized Manila’s dining scene. It was later joined by Lusso, Grace Park, The Loggia at Palacio de Memoria, and her catering company Cibo di Marghi.

Beyond the restaurant industry, Forés was recognized internationally. She was knighted by the Italian government for promoting Italian cuisine and culture and was named a United Nations Ambassador for Gastronomic Tourism in 2019.

Forés was also a two-time cancer survivor, embodying resilience both in life and in the kitchen.

Her legacy will continue to inspire generations of chefs and food lovers alike.
