Senator Christopher “Bong” Go reaffirmed his commitment to community development by joining the launch of the Malasakit sa Kooperatiba program in the National Capital Region (NCR) last Tuesday.

Around 230 cooperatives, represented by over 400 members, attended the event at the Philippine Christian University.

Go was joined by key officials from the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), including Assistant Secretaries Abdulsalam Guinomla, Virgilio Lazaga and Vergel Martin Hilario.

The lawmaker stressed his support for cooperative empowerment through the Malasakit sa Kooperatiba program, which aims to strengthen cooperatives as drivers of community progress and inclusive growth.

He has consistently backed the CDA’s Human Capital Development Program for Cooperatives, advocating for increased funding in the 2024 and 2025 budgets.

“Our support for cooperatives is not just aid, it is an investment in the future of our communities,” Go said. “Let us use it to strengthen the livelihoods of each member and help more Filipinos.”

“You can count on me to prioritize small cooperatives. Whatever further develops you, your capabilities, your cooperatives, I will support you. My office is open to all your suggestions,” he added.

Each micro and small cooperative received a 50,000-peso financial grant from the CDA, intended for capital to expand operations, enhance livelihood initiatives, or invest in community-based projects.

Go also distributed grocery packs, snacks, shirts, basketballs, and volleyballs to cooperative members. He also gave away bicycles, phones, and watches to select recipients.

“Cooperatives are a symbol of unity and cooperation,” Go said. “In every step you take, we are with you in providing livelihood opportunities and social services for our countrymen.”

The senator is a staunch advocate for cooperative development and co-authored and co-sponsored legislation such as Republic Act 11502, declaring October as National Cooperative Month, and RA 11535, mandating the appointment of Cooperative Development Officers in all local government units.
