Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Youth, reaffirmed his commitment to education as he extended support to 371 scholars in Cebu on Tuesday, 21 January.

During an event at Cebu Technological University in Danao City, the scholars received snacks, shirts, pens, vitamins, basketballs, and volleyballs. Go, also chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sports, emphasized the importance of sports in youth development, reiterating his advocacy, “Get into sports, stay away from drugs, and keep us healthy and fit.”

The beneficiaries are scholars of the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) Tulong Dunong Program, representing Colegio de San Antonio de Padua, Northeastern Cebu Colleges, Rosemont Hills Montessori College, and Sto. Tomas College in Davao City. The program aims to provide financial assistance to deserving students, ensuring access to quality education.

Senator Go expressed gratitude to the Cebu Technological University administration and local officials for their collaboration in supporting the scholars. He highlighted education as a foundation for the nation's future, saying, “Supporting Filipino youth means investing in the future of our country.”

Go also highlighted recent legislative achievements that aim to improve access to education, including the enactment of Republic Act No. 12077, or the Student Loan Payment Moratorium During Disasters and Emergencies Act, which he co-sponsored and co-authored. The law provides financial relief to students with outstanding loans during times of calamity.

Go has also co-authored Senate Bill No. 1360, seeking to expand the coverage of the tertiary education subsidy under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.
