BAGUIO CITY — Hailing the ruling of the Supreme Court (SC) on the Camp John Hay case, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) stated that the decision is a landmark victory for the Filipino people.
Last year, the highest court of the country upheld its 3 April ruling reinstating an arbitration ruling that voided the John Hay development lease where Camp John Hay Development Corp. (CJHDevCo) will be evicted from the camp while. The BCDA was required to reimburse the developer’s investments.
“With BCDA regaining control over Camp John Hay, a wealth of opportunities offering benefits for everyone will be unlocked,” as written in the statement of the BCDA.
According to the BCDA, there are key benefits expected because of the latest SC ruling. There will be new investments creating more jobs, boosting the domestic economy, and encouraging local entrepreneurship.
There will be access for all where Camp John Hay will be open to all Filipinos promoting inclusivity and social cohesion by reinvigorating and fostering various outdoor and indoor activities. Redevelopment is also expected that will transform the area into a family- and community-oriented, as well as world-class destination where one can commune with nature. BCDA added that sustainable economic growth will be felt where development balancing care for the environment and progress will uplift communities and enhance property values.
BCDA urged all stakeholders, businesses, and community groups in Camp John Hay with BCDA to facilitate a seamless transition.
“Despite the clear language of the Supreme Court Decision, some persons in the guise of allegedly protecting the rights of third persons have sought to disseminate misinformation and an inaccurate interpretation of the decision. The BCDA advises everyone to be vigilant and read the Supreme Court Decision itself, to correct any and all attempts at defrauding the public,” BCDA stressed.
