Nearly 500 GSIS pensioners underpaid in 2023

452 senior pensioners did not receive their rightful benefit amounts from the Government Service Insurance Corporation (GSIS) in 2023, resulting in an underpayment of more than P11 million, the Commission on Audit (CoA) found.

Qualified old-age and disability pensioners, or those reaching the ages of 90, 95, and 100 years, should receive milestone benefits amounting to P20,000, P30,000, and P50,000, respectively, pursuant to Board Resolution 135. The amounts are automatically e-credited to their account.

In 2023, the GSIS disbursed a total of P58.518 million in milestone benefits to 2,348 qualified pensioners, according to the state auditors.

However, audit findings revealed that 452 pensioners did not receive the rightful amounts of the benefits due them during the year.

The audit report showed that 303 qualified pensioners aged 90 did not receive the initial grant of P20,000, while 107 pensioners aged 95 to 99 years were given only the differential amount of P30,000.

The remaining 32 pensioners also did not receive the rightful amounts of P20,000 and P30,000 when they reached 90 and 95 years old, respectively, totaling P50,000.

Meanwhile, 10 pensioners who reached 100 years either received the initial grant of P20,000 or the differential amounts of P30,000 and P50,000 but did not receive the rightful total amount of the milestone benefit of P100,000.

The CoA noted that the payments were structured in such a way that upon reaching the subsequent milestone ages of 95 and 100, only the differential amounts of P30,000 and P50,000 are e-credited to the pensioner’s account following the presumption that the qualified pensioners had received the initial milestone benefit of P20,000.
