The elections in May will be another opportunity to shape the nation, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminded Filipinos.
In his New Year message, Comelec chairperson George Garcia said 2025 will also be another year for the poll body to “safeguard the integrity of this sacred process.”
“The year 2025 presents significant challenges, including the historic Bangsamoro parliamentary elections, the deployment of the most advanced counting machines yet, and the pilot of internet-based voting for overseas Filipino voters,” Garcia pointed out.
“These efforts, while ambitious, offer a unique opportunity to strengthen transparency, modernize our electoral system, and enhance the voting experience,” he noted.
The first-ever Bangsamoro parliamentary elections, Garcia highlighted, “will play a pivotal role in realizing the long-held aspirations for peace, progress and inclusivity in the Bangsamoro region.”
He also emphasized that the elections will “bring the electoral process closer to our kababayan abroad, whose dedication and sacrifices have been the backbone of our nation’s economy.”
The Bangsamoro elections will coincide with the 2025 midterm elections scheduled for 12 May.
This election cycle will be historic, marking the debut of the internet voting system. To participate, registered overseas voters must complete pre-enrollment between 12 February and 12 May. Voting for overseas Filipinos will be conducted from 13 April to 12 May.
“With single-minded dedication and our collective efforts, I am certain that we can overcome these challenges and turn them into milestones,” Garcia said.
The Comelec chief lauded the poll staff for their “unwavering commitment.”
“Your hard work and courage often come at great personal sacrifice and sometimes even at the risk of your safety. It is your unwavering commitment that gives the Comelec leadership the confidence to rise to the challenges of next year’s historic and transformative elections,” Garcia said.
