Taped firearms thing of past — PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Saturday said its officers do not need to tape their firearms during the New Year celebration.
In a radio interview, acting director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said police officers were “professional enough” to know the consequences should they discharge their firearms without good reason.
“I have full trust and confidence that the members of the NCRPO are professional enough and I know that they know the consequences if they use their firearms,” he said.
“I believe it is not necessary to place tape on the tip of their guns and we know that they are responsible,” he added.
Aberin noted that erring cops can face serious consequences such as criminal and administrative charges if the illegal actions were proven.
Dismissal awaits wrongdoers
Apart from legal charges, police officers may be dismissed from the PNP.
The police have also recorded a “generally peaceful” Christmas celebration except for two separate incidents of stray bullets. One was recorded in Sta. Mesa, Manila, and the other in Parañaque City.
