A man was shot dead after filing a petition before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) against alleged flying voters in Pualas, Lanao del Sur.
Zainodin Sarip Guro, 48, died on the spot after he was shot several times on Christmas Day, 25 December, by a gunman onboard a motorcycle.
According to reports, Guro was supposed to go to church when the incident happened.
Guro was one of the petitioners in Barangay Tomarompong.
Comelec Chairperson George Garcia condemned the brutal killing.
“Election related or not, any senseless killing should be condemned as an act of cowardice,” Garcia told reporters in a Viber message.
He, however, stressed that it is still early to consider the incident as election-related.
“At this point, it is premature to even make a hunch as to the motive of the culprit,” he added.
In November, a poll officer in Lanao del Norte was also killed in an ambush in an apparent poll-related incident.
