South Korean actor-turned-director Kim Hee Won, who helms Disney+’s newest K-drama Lightshop Keeper, believes that the eight-part mystery show will satisfy viewers.
“The biggest challenge was how to make it feel fresh and engaging for the viewers. How to make it easy to relate to and emotionally moving,” Kim said in an online press conference.
Despite some concerns, Won focused on the ultimate goal: For viewers to enjoy and feel happy while watching the drama.
“I have confidence that this show can really move people’s hearts. The vibe and atmosphere of Lightshop Keeper is something that is relatable to everyone and something that can really touch your hearts,” Kim added.
Lightshop Keeper, a new series from Kangfull, the brains behind the super-powered drama Moving, is a mysterious drama that explores life, death, and what makes everybody human.
An adaptation of his hit webtoon of the same name, Lightshop Keeper follows a group of strangers, each struggling to come to terms with a traumatic event in their past. As they go about their daily lives, each of them is mysteriously drawn to a light shop located at end of a dark and creepy alleyway. The shop, the only place in the alley that is alive, is guarded by vigilant shopkeeper Jung Won Young (Ju Ji Hoon).
Lightshop Keeper also stars Park Bo Young, (Strong Girl Bong-soon, Oh My Ghost) as Kwon Youngji, a nurse with an unusual connection to her patients; Bae Seong Woo (Veteran, The King) as police officer Yang Sungsik; and Lee Jung Eun (Parasite) as Jung Yuhee, a distraught mother.
“There’s just a lot that’s in store for you, so I feel like with each member of the audience, you will find different things to enjoy about the series,” Kangfull said.
Lightshop Keeper joins an ever-growing array of award-winning Korean shows now available on Disney+ including: Moving, about a group of South Korean special agents working to protect their super-powered children from harm and exploitation at the hands of malicious government agencies, and Big Bet, about the rise and fall of a serial entrepreneur who will do anything to get ahead; as well as The Worst of Evil and Vigilante.
