Teen drama is getting a supernatural makeover as Disney+ prepares to unleash Coven Academy, a new series where teenage ambition, forbidden attraction and dangerous secrets collide inside an elite school for young magicians.

The series, created by Tim Federle, will premiere 2 October, with its newly released teaser offering viewers their first glimpse at the mysterious world waiting behind the academy’s doors.

Where magic comes with a price

Set against the eerie backdrop of New Orleans, Coven Academy centers on three teenage witches and a group of charismatic warlocks studying at an exclusive boarding school.

At the academy, supernatural abilities come with influence, while hidden histories can have deadly consequences. As the students become entangled in an ancient conflict threatening the city, personal relationships become increasingly complicated — particularly when romance enters the picture.

Meet the young coven

Malina Pauli Weissman, known for A Series of Unfortunate Events, leads the cast as Briar, an independent teenager from New York whose life changes after discovering her supernatural abilities.

She is joined by Malachi Barton as Jake, a powerful warlock with an alluring but threatening presence; Jordan Leftwich as Sasha, an empathetic student with the ability to read minds; and Ora Duplass as Tegan, a rebellious witch capable of manipulating time.

The supernatural student body also includes Louis Thresher as Ollie, a newly transformed vampire whose hunger presents another complication.

Overseeing the academy is Miss Graves, played by Tiffani Thiessen, whose glamorous appearance masks the authority and formidable power expected of the school’s head.

Devon Sawa joins the series as special guest star Mr. Cole, a brilliant and charismatic warlock professor.

The recurring cast features Swayam Bhatia as McKenna, Brendon Tremblay as Alexander, Keegan Connor Tracy as Tamora, BJ Harrison as Agnes, and Nathaniel Logan McIntyre as Teese.
