The UST Atelier Alumni Association Inc., in collaboration with Tribong Uste under the leadership of Marissa Pe Yang, holds The Distinguished 2024, a group exhibition showcasing the works of master artists and distinguished University of Santo Tomas (UST) alumni. It is on view until 4 December at the ArtistSpace at ground level of Ayala Museum Annex, Makati Avenue corner De La Rosa Street, Greenbelt Park, Makati City.

This thoughtfully curated event will feature the diverse and compelling works of celebrated artists including Manuel Baldemor, Remy Boquiren, Richard Buxani, Ramoncito Cruz, Salvador Ching, Dante Castillo, Joe Datuin, Fil Delacruz, Janos Delacruz, Anita del Rosario, Edgar Doctor, Raul Isidro, Prudencio Lamarroza, Derrick Macutay, Nemi Miranda, Justin Nuyda, Jose Tence Ruiz and Pinggot Zulueta.

This is a tribute to the vibrant legacy and artistic achievements of UST’s Fine Arts alumni, a testament to the university’s longstanding influence as a beacon of art and culture in the Philippines. This showcase pays homage to the enduring contributions of UST-trained artists and the Atelier’s commitment to nurturing creative talent and promoting Filipino art on a global scale.

JOSE Tence Ruiz's obra on display.The exhibition places a focus on the interplay between tradition and contemporary expression, showcasing a diverse range of works — paintings, fine prints, sculptures and mixed media—highlighting the unique voices of distinguished artists who once graced the university’s storied halls. Each piece speaks to the timeless influence of UST’s art education, embodying the spirit of innovation, resilience, and dedication that defines “Thomasian Art.”

Visitors can expect an array of paintings, sculptures and mixed media works that embody a rich dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression. Each piece is a reflection of the unique voice and vision of its creator, showcasing how UST’s art education has inspired generations of artists with a spirit of innovation, resilience, and dedication.

Curated by Ian Belleza, The Distinguished 2024 is more than just an exhibition; it is a celebration of collective memory, artistic excellence, and a shared journey that continues to shape the narrative of Filipino art. It invites dialogue on the profound impact of academic institutions in fostering creative minds and sustaining cultural heritage while embracing modern perspectives.
