Filipinos hoping for more holiday breaks will be disappointed, as Malacañang on Friday said there will be no special non-working holiday declared for 2 January 2024.

In a Viber message to reporters, Communications Secretary Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil said the Tuesday following New Year's will not be declared a special non-working holiday.

"Wala po (There's none)," Garafil told Palace reporters when asked if the day after New Year's Day will be a holiday.

Marcos declared 26 December a special non-working holiday so that people could "celebrate the holiday with their families and loved ones."

Both 30 and 31 December as well as 1 January are holidays.

Rizal Day (30 December) and New Year's Day (1 January) are regular holidays. The last day of the year, 31 December, which is New Year's Eve, is a special holiday.

Proclamation No. 368, which lists the holidays for 2024, says that Filipinos will have at least five long weekends for the year.
