BAGUIO CITY — The capital of Kalinga receives the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) which was earned under Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero who was suspended two months ago.
Tabuk City, Kalinga has bagged its second SGLG award showing the manner of leadership of Estrañero and other Tabuk City LGU entities in managing the Kalinga capital. In 2001, Tabuk City was awarded such recognition because of the administration's exemplary performance in 2021.
This 2023, the SGLG award was given to Tabuk City for Estrañero in 2022, highlighting the city's commitment to providing efficient delivery of public services and its efforts in strengthening transparency, accountability, and participation.
On 3 October 2023, Estrañero was slapped with a three-month suspension for simple misconduct on the issue of irregularities in purchasing medical equipment and PPE during the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The Estrañero administration has implemented various programs and initiatives designed at transforming Tabuk into a more sustainable and progressive city. His unwavering commitment to public service and outstanding leadership have been crucial in guiding the local government toward this second SGLG award. The city's success in receiving the SGLG award is also the result of the tireless work of all the City Local Government Unit (CLGU) offices and the Sangguniang Panglunsod. Collaboration and teamwork among different departments and local government bodies have been crucial in implementing various projects and policies that promote good governance practices," stated the Tabuk City government.
