The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority disclosed the indefinite retention of the window hour of the current number coding scheme in Metro Manila.
The number coding scheme under the current rule, is implemented during peak hours or from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Chairman Romando Artes of the MMDA said the agency is scrapping the lifting of window hours based on the agency's Traffic Engineering Management's assessment that traffic in Metro Manila is still manageable.
He said their two-week study showed they can prevent turning the major roads in the metropolis into a parking space thus the scrapping of the planned lifting of number coding window hour.
This way, Artes said the move is to give way to motorists who own one vehicle and may be affected by the lifting of window hour.
Artes said that while the agency has scrapped indefinitely the lifting it would depend on the traffic situation.
This will change once they see in the extreme case the traffic is not moving in major roads in the metropolis.
On the other hand, the MMDA in preparation for "carmageddon" in the holiday season will implement the duty extension of its traffic enforcers until 12 a.m. for traffic management past mall hours.
