A 58-year-old newly-elected village councilor or kagawad in Pasay City was shot dead inside the barangay hall Monday, police said.

In a report Tuesday, the Pasay City Police identified the victim as Marcelina Camacho, a former village secretary, who won the post as one of the village councilors of Barangay 37 in the 30 October Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Camacho was attacked by two unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen inside the barangay hall in San Juan Street, Barangay 37 at around 5:35 p.m. Monday.

The police said CCTV footage showed that the pillion rider alighted the motorcycle and shot the victim twice inside the barangay hall.

Camacho was rushed to the Adventist Medical Center for treatment but was pronounced dead at about 8:16 p.m.

Operatives of the Pasay City police drug enforcement unit who were patrolling near the area arrested the accomplice of the gunman after their motorcycle bumped a person waiting for a ride, causing them to fall to the ground.

The accomplice was only identified as one alias "Vladimer", 27, who was the driver of the motorcycle. The gunman managed to escape on foot and is now the subject of a manhunt operation by the police.

The arrested suspect is now detained at the Pasay police detention cell while murder charges are being readied for filing against him before the local prosecutor's office.
