Revilla: Attacks on journalists an attack on democracy
Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. on Monday condemned the killing of broadcaster Juan Jumalon, stressing that attacking media personalities is a "violence against democracy."
"Mariin nating kinokondena ang brutal na pagpaslang kay Radio Broadcaster Juan Jumalon habang siya ay nagpo-programa sa mismong istasyon na isinagawa sa loob mismo ng kaniyang kanyang tahanan," Revilla said in a statement.
"Ang anumang karahasan sa mga mamamahayag, ay karahasan laban sa ating demokrasya," he added.
Revilla said such a violent attack is "in no uncertain terms an affront to our free press."
"I challenge all our law enforcement agencies to make accountable those behind this brazen attack against Mr. Jumalon– Radio Broadcaster of Calamba, Misamis Occidental," he added.
