Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla yesterday said several government execs are under probe for complicity in profiteering from onion prices.
Remulla confirmed this on Monday, saying an ongoing investigation is ongoing into the possible involvement of at least six past and current government officials in the stockpiling and profiteering from the significant increase in onion prices witnessed last year.
But Remulla declined to disclose the identities of these individuals, citing the need to maintain confidentiality while the cases are under evaluation.
Remulla revealed that the officials, including several civilians, have been officially notified of the complaints filed against them by the National Bureau of Investigation.
He explained that the cases have already been forwarded to a panel of prosecutors tasked with evaluating the complaints.
Remulla said the NBI's efforts in this matter are being overseen by an undersecretary within the Justice Department.
