General Santos City — The local government here on Monday announced that it has released a memorandum which will implement the mandated price ceiling of rice as ordered by Executive Order 29 of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The memo — released by the Office of the City Administrator — orders a mandated price ceiling of regular-milled rice to P41 per kilo and P45 for the well-milled rice variety.

City Administrator Franklin Gacal said that the GenSan LGU also directed City Administrator for Public Market Lito Esclamado and Business Permits and Licensing Division head Geraldine Zamora to implement such order in the areas of responsibility of the LGU.

Gacal added that Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao has instructed her to strictly enforce such Memorandum effective 5 September 2023. Those businesses who will found out to be violating such order will be ordered closed by the city government.

"As such, you shall strictly oversee that all business establishment within the jurisdiction of General Santos City engaged in the selling of rice shall comply with this order under pain of penalty. You shall immediately issue a cease and desist order against any erring establishment," the order said.
