Thus, for us, Christmas serves not only as a celebration of the birth of Christ, but as a reminder of our role as guardian of the people’s rights.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo said the judiciary is pursuing justice enlightened by the virtues of love, charity, kindness and peace.
This, as Gesmundo issued his Christmas message for the Filipino people. "For us in the Judiciary, such work means pursuing justice enlightened by the virtues of love, charity, kindness and peace," he said.
"Regardless of the ways we celebrate Christmas, its meaning is the same for all: Christmas is the season of perpetual hope, love, and peace," he added.
The Chief Justice said that despite the challenges we had to endure the entire year, come Christmastime, "we find ourselves filled with optimism, compassion and mercy. We smile more, share more, help more and forgive more."
At least during this season, Gesmundo said, "conflicts are ceased, problems are paused, fights are forgotten. Such is the magic of Christmas."
He said that while welcoming the truce on negativity, it should not lose sight of what needs to be done to live out what Christmas truly means, and of the work required to ensure to embody the true spirit of Christmas all year round.
"Thus, for us, Christmas serves not only as a celebration of the birth of Christ, but as a reminder of our role as guardian of the people's rights."
He said that as the nation is in celebration, may the goodwill and blessings of the season strengthen the commitment to truly working together for a joyful and peaceful future for all.
