The Gabriela Women's Party on 11 September congratulated Alex Eala for winning the 2022 US Open Tennis girls' singles grand slam title — a first for the Philippines.

In a statement, the progressive women's party-list said: "This is yet another proof that Filipino women are capable of blazing trails for the country in global sports, and further testament of our strength, despite prevailing macho-feudal notions.

"We will continue to push for greater state funding for the development of Philippine sports and support for Filipino athletes, especially Filipino women athletes."
