Global girl group Katseye brought high drama in their newly released music video “Gabriela,” featuring Hollywood actress Jessica Alba, which dropped on 20 June.
Inspired by early 2000s telenovelas, the multicultural six-member group delivers chaotic fight scenes through a mix of acting and choreography.
The storyline centers on the group's intense competition to take over the role of CEO of Gabriela Enterprises, succeeding Jessica Alba’s character, the poised and enigmatic Gabriela.
In a reaction video posted on Katseye’s official YouTube channel on Saturday, Filipino member Sophia Laforteza shared her experience working with Alba.
“She’s everybody’s girl crush,” she said.
“It’s always so great to see, and it’s very inspiring, especially the things she said about work, finding time for yourself, and just being a woman in this industry,” she added.
Member Megan also admitted that “Gabriela” took a different creative treatment compared to their previous music videos, which are usually dance-focused.
"I honestly think that this music video is super different from anything that we've done before. We also incorporated so much acting, more than actually the dancing, which usually we're so dance heavy in Katseye. We usually focus a lot on dancing in our music videos, but this one, we kind of switched it around and focused on the storyline of Gabriela," she said.
“Gabriela” is part of the group’s five-track "Beautiful Chaos" EP, set for release on 27 June.
