FL, local arts’ guiding light

Putting on her art aficionado hat, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos welcomed another milestone for Philippine arts and culture as she joined President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in opening the Likhang Filipino Theater in Pasay City on Friday evening.
With a wide smile and a visibly cheerful presence, the First Lady took part in the inauguration of the new theater. The venue puts Filipino creativity, artistry, and cultural heritage in the spotlight.
The occasion was made even more memorable as the First Lady joined the President and former First Lady Imelda Marcos in cutting the ribbon, formally opening the theater to the public.
This celebrated more than a new cultural facility. It recognized the stories, traditions and creative talents that make the Philippines uniquely Filipino.
Adding to the festive atmosphere was a special welcome performance by La Manila Rondalla, whose musical presentation provided a fitting soundtrack to an evening dedicated to the country’s artistic heritage.
Laboratory for creativity
The Likhang Filipino Theater can accommodate 279 individuals and forms part of the Creative Lab of Likhang Filipino. It is envisioned as a space where Filipino artistry and cultural narratives can be presented and appreciated by a wider audience.
Its opening could not have come at a more opportune time.
With the Philippines set to host the 49th ASEAN Summit this month, the theater provides an additional platform to introduce the country’s creative identity to its Southeast Asian neighbors.
As delegates and visitors arrive for the regional gathering, the Philippines will have an opportunity to showcase more than its role as host. It will share the richness of its culture, the ingenuity of its people, and the creativity reflected in locally made products.
After all, behind every Filipino creation is a story worth telling — one that reflects the country’s heritage, influences, and the imagination of the people who bring these creations to life.
Through the Likhang Filipino Theater, these stories can find a stage and reach audiences who may be discovering Filipino artistry for the first time.
The venue also reinforces the importance of creating spaces where local creative talents and cultural expressions can be appreciated, particularly as the Philippines seeks to strengthen its presence in the regional creative landscape.
For a country with a wealth of artistic traditions, having another dedicated venue to present its cultural identity is a welcome development.
And as Mrs. Marcos joined the celebration with a smile, the evening served as a fitting reminder of what the new theater represents: a country proud of its roots, confident in the creativity of its people, and eager to share its stories with the rest of the world.
With its doors now open, the Likhang Filipino Theater is ready to give Filipino creativity another stage — one where the country’s heritage, craftsmanship, and imagination can take center stage before an audience that extends beyond its shores.
