Suzuki Motor Corporation reported record global sales and production for September 2026, with strong results in India helping the Japanese automaker post double-digit growth in both categories.

Worldwide sales reached 315,995 vehicles, an increase of 17.2 percent from the same month last year, according to figures released by the company on 29 October. Global production also rose 10 percent to 348,459 units, the highest September output in Suzuki’s history.

India accounted for much of the increase, with domestic wholesale sales reaching 185,252 units, up 36.5 percent year-on-year. The country recorded its 12th consecutive month of sales growth and its highest September sales volume to date.

Suzuki’s overall overseas sales climbed 23.4 percent to 246,882 units, also a September record. India contributed nearly 60 percent of the company’s total global sales during the month.

The results came alongside higher production at Suzuki’s overseas factories, which manufactured 258,943 vehicles, an increase of 15.5 percent from September 2025.

Indian plants produced 241,977 vehicles, up 19.9 percent, and accounted for nearly 70 percent of Suzuki’s worldwide output. The country also recorded its 13th consecutive month of production growth.

Manufacturing operations outside India and Japan, however, reported a 23.9-percent decline to 16,966 units.

Suzuki’s performance in Japan was weaker during the month. Domestic production fell 3.2 percent to 89,516 vehicles, its second consecutive monthly decline, following lower output for the local and export markets.

Sales in Japan slipped 0.6 percent to 69,113 units, largely due to lower demand for minivehicles.

The company’s minivehicle sales declined 4.9 percent to 51,792 units, while sales of standard and small vehicles rose 14.8 percent to 17,321 units, a September record for that category.

Exports from Japan increased 5.7 percent to 19,210 units, the first year-on-year improvement in three months. Suzuki attributed the increase to higher shipments of completely knocked-down vehicle kits, which are assembled at overseas facilities.

The September results also contributed to Suzuki’s record performance during the April-to-September period.

Global sales for the six months reached 1,824,006 vehicles, up 19.9 percent from the corresponding period last year. Production increased 16.6 percent to 1,903,896 units.

Overseas sales rose 26 percent to 1,469,966 vehicles, with India accounting for 1,100,260 units, an increase of 35.4 percent. Suzuki also reported record sales for the six-month period in Latin America and Africa.

India produced 1,329,617 vehicles during the same period, up 26.6 percent, while total overseas production increased 23.9 percent to 1,429,738 units.

Japan’s six-month production declined 1.1 percent to 474,158 vehicles, while domestic sales edged down 0.3 percent to 354,040 units.

Exports for April to September rose 8.5 percent to 107,723 units, supported by increased shipments of both complete vehicles and assembly kits.

From January through September, Suzuki produced 2,882,451 vehicles worldwide, up 15.2 percent, while global sales rose 13.7 percent to 2,726,340 units.

The figures are preliminary, according to Suzuki’s report.
