LIPA CITY, Batangas — Farmers in CALABARZON are being readied for the expected effects of a stronger El Niño through the deployment of farm equipment and climate-resilient agricultural technologies, the Department of Agriculture said.
DA CALABARZON disaster risk reduction and management alternate focal person John Carlo Narvacan said the regional office has interventions available to help farmers cope with prolonged dry conditions and possible water shortages.
Among the measures are modern farming tools and technologies designed to help maintain production despite changing rainfall patterns and hotter conditions.
The regional initiative forms part of the agriculture department’s wider preparations for an intensified El Niño, which is expected to persist into the first half of 2027.
The DA has also been strengthening food and farm input stocks, irrigation support and other location-specific interventions in areas considered vulnerable to drought.
PAGASA has warned of possible below-normal rainfall, dry spells and drought in some areas, prompting the DA to adjust interventions based on local conditions and farmers’ needs.
