The Abra Weavers delivered in their first international foray for the country, thwarting Hong Kong Eastern, 79-72, in the East Asia Super League 2026-2027 Season inaugurals on Saturday at the SM Seaside Cebu Arena in Cebu City.
Reinforcement Fadi Ibrahim struck when needed, pouring in eight points in the last 5:06 to secure the victory for the Weavers, the first Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) team to compete in the 12-team tournament featuring the region's top ballclubs.
Jaylen Johnson, former Rain or Shine import, matched Fadi's 14 points and four rebounds, while Filipino-American DJ Fenner compiled 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Weavers, the defending national champion and top qualifier in the ongoing North Division playoffs of the SportsPlus MPBL 2026 Season.
Michael Eric chalked up 10 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists; Dave Ildefonso, the reigning MPBL Most Valuable Player, contributed nine points and four rebounds before fouling out in the last 2:36; and Mike Ayonayon added eight points and two assists.
