NCRPO intensifies 49th ASEAN Summit security plans

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is ramping up security protocols and inter-agency coordination in preparation for the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related meetings scheduled for November, officials announced Friday.
NCRPO officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano met Thursday with key officials from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Department of Tourism, and Department of the Interior and Local Government to finalize operational logistics and security frameworks.
The planning meeting addressed route security, traffic management, convoy movements, crowd control, and emergency response capabilities across summit venues, delegate hotels, international airports, and key transit corridors.
Abrahano stressed that security operations aim to safeguard foreign dignitaries while preserving normal daily routines for Metro Manila residents.
“Our preparation is centered on coordination, readiness, and rapid response,” Abrahano said.
“We want every concerned unit and agency to know its role and be ready to act when needed. At the same time, we want to make sure that the security measures for the summit will be carried out with minimal inconvenience to our residents and the motoring public,” he added.
As part of the deployment plan, the NCRPO will increase uniformed police visibility, conduct route surveillance, and maintain intelligence monitoring around key strategic sites.
Police units are also finalizing contingency measures with local government units and traffic authorities to ensure rapid coordination during high-density convoy movements.
“This is a shared responsibility,” Abrahano added. “Through close coordination among all agencies, we can ensure that the Philippines, particularly Metro Manila, will be able to host the ASEAN Summit in a safe, peaceful, orderly, and dignified manner.”
