Fans of Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis (tlh) will soon return to the world of Adam Carlsen and Olive Smith as the author expands the story of her much-loved couple.
Hazelwood announced that The Two-Body Problem, a sequel to her bestselling romance novel, will arrive on 2 February 2027, continuing our favorite scientists’ journey beyond their first taste of love.
Unlike the original book, which followed Olive and Adam’s unexpected romance, the upcoming sequel will focus on what happens after the grand gestures and happy endings. The story follows Olive as she begins her career as a postdoctoral researcher while balancing the demands of academia, personal goals and her relationship with Adam.
Hazelwood revealed that returning to the characters was not part of her original plans, but eventually became a story she could not resist telling.
“I wrote a sequel to The Love Hypothesis is not a sentence I thought I’d say a year or so ago, but now I weirdly can’t imagine a world in which The Two-Body Problem doesn’t exist,” she shared on Instagram.
The author credited the upcoming The Love Hypothesis film adaptation for reigniting her connection with Adam and Olive.
“The TLH movie and its cast made me fall for Adam and Olive all over again. Revisiting them was an absolute pleasure,” she said.
For those eager to revisit the characters, she teased that the sequel will blend everyday relationship moments with the challenges of academic life.
“It’s a mix of slice of life, postdoctoral turmoil, and unflinching exploration of the hardest challenge one will face in a long-term relationship: deciding what to have for dinner,” she wrote.
The announcement arrives as excitement grows for the The Love Hypothesis movie, which stars Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman.
Hazelwood also shared that MRC is working on a film adaptation of The Two-Body Problem for Amazon MGM Studios, though the project has yet to receive an official green light.
