CEBU CITY — Young basketball players from across Cebu will take center stage on Sunday as the Governor's Cup U18 Basketball Tournament opens at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Mandaue Sports Complex.

Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro invited families and basketball fans to support the athletes and celebrate the opening of the youth sports event.

"This tournament is about giving our young athletes an opportunity to compete, learn and grow," Baricuatro said. "I invite everyone to come and support our players and celebrate Cebu's young talents."

Businessman and sports enthusiast Blake Nelson Go also urged the public to attend and cheer for the competing teams.

"Come, cheer for your team and enjoy the games," Go said. "Let's give our young athletes the support they deserve."

Go encouraged student-athletes to maintain a balance between their education and athletic pursuits.

"Study hard, but make time for sports," Go said. "After your studies, get involved, stay active and discover what you can achieve through sports."

The tournament aims to promote grassroots sports development, discipline, teamwork and camaraderie among youth athletes throughout the province.
