Synology has launched ActiveProtect Manager 2.0, the latest software update for its ActiveProtect data protection appliances, expanding platform support, recovery options and security features.
The update extends protection to Amazon EC2, Azure VM, Proxmox VE, Nutanix AHV and Google Workspace. It also supports cross-platform recovery, allowing workloads to be backed up and restored across different environments.
“Managing fragmented backup infrastructure drives up costs and slows recovery. The ActiveProtect appliance unites purpose-built storage with powerful data management software into a single, predictable investment,” Synology Data Protection Group executive vice president Jia-Yu Liu said.
“APM 2.0 builds on that value, enabling organizations to safeguard their entire hybrid infrastructure through one centralized, scalable solution.”
Backup options have also expanded, with broader support for Synology NAS models through ActiveProtect Vault and Azure Blob Storage added as a copy and tiering target.
Backups stored in Amazon S3 or Azure Blob Storage can also be restored directly to Amazon EC2 or Azure VM, reducing reliance on on-premises hardware during disaster recovery.
APM 2.0 also adds software-based storage encryption at the volume level to protect data at rest.
A planned APM 2.1 update will introduce AI and machine learning-based anomaly detection, malware scanning before restoration and an Auto Fallback feature that restores the latest clean backup if malware is detected.
