Illegal pre-registered SIM seller behind bars

Police arrested a 26-year-old man in Bulacan for allegedly selling registered Subscriber Identity Module cards online, the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) announced Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference at Camp Crame, PNP-ACG acting director Maj. Gen. Wilson Asueta identified the suspect by the alias “Junel.”
Operatives from the Bulacan Provincial Cyber Response Team arrested the suspect during an entrapment operation in Obando, Bulacan, on the night of 24 August.
Cybercrime operatives and members of the Warriors Against Cybercrime Auxiliary Force discovered the suspect’s social media profile during routine cyber patrols targeting the unauthorized sale of verified e-wallet accounts and pre-registered SIM cards.
The suspect was offering registered SIM cards for P10 each.
Investigators said the suspect engaged in bulk sales of registered SIM cards and admitted to registering several cards using other individuals’ identities, claiming registered cards were easier to sell.
