The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Saturday issued a warning to residents of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental regarding potential ashfall from Kanlaon Volcano.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the volcano emitted a voluminous plume at 11:23 a.m., rising 150 meters above the summit crater. Phivolcs noted that the plume drifted toward the southeast, driven by strong winds.
The OCD – Negros Island Region (NIR) advised nearby communities across the region to take necessary precautions against potential ashfall. State seismologists had earlier recorded superheated plume activity at the crater of Kanlaon Volcano between 11:05 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. on Friday.
The volcano remains under Alert Level 2, indicating a moderate level of unrest. Meanwhile, entry within the four-kilometer permanent danger zone and flights in the vicinity of the volcano remain strictly prohibited.
