Actress and television host Gladys Reyes is adding recording artist to her long list of showbiz roles with “Primera Kontrabida,” a playful novelty-pop track inspired by the memorable villains she has portrayed throughout her career.
The song embraces Reyes’ reputation as one of Philippine entertainment’s most recognizable kontrabidas, turning her onscreen persona into a cheeky musical celebration. Beneath its campy tone, however, the track delivers a pointed message about real-life forms of wrongdoing, including deception, manipulation and greed.
StarPop built anticipation for the release by highlighting some of Reyes’ best-known characters, including Betsy in Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes, Mayet in And the Breadwinner Is…, Salve in Here Comes the Groom and, of course, Clara in Mara Clara.
“Primera Kontrabida” was written by Jonathan Manalo, head of ABS-CBN Music’s creatives, content and operations, who also produced the track with StarPop label head Roque “Rox” Santos.
The song is now available on major music streaming platforms.
