  • Rita Gaviola, more popularly known as “Badjao Girl,” seethed with anger at the podcast hosts of “KoolPals” after watching a recent viral episode of the show where the hosts made disparaging remarks about the tribal community she belongs to.

In the episode aired on 10 August, the show, hosted by Nonong Ballinan, James Caraan, Muman Reyes and Ryes Rems, had Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon as a guest.

As flooding was discussed on the podcast, Ballinan asked Secretary Dizon: “'Di ba lagi po tayong binabaha.

Sec. Dizon answered while scratching his head: “Sanay na. Sanay sa tubig.”

Ballinan reacted and said: “Kasi, di ba, laging nasa streets sila palagi, pero wala pa akong nakita sa news.”

Laughing, Ballinan said: “Ganon pala 'yon. Kaya pala gawa sa PVC pipe.”

On her TikTok account, Gaviola reacted: “Grabe kayo sa mga Badjao, ha.

Grabe kung paano nila maliitin ang mga Badjao, kung paano nila maliitin ang mga katribo ko,” she said, referring to Ballinan, who was her co-housemate in Pinoy Big Brother.

Reacting to Reyes, Gaviola said: “Yung mga sinabi ng isang lalaki na kapag lumusong sa baha, e, puwede kang makatapak ng mga Badjao. Ano tingin niyo sa amin, mga basura?”

“Nakakagigil!

“Nakakagigil, nakakaiyak. Kasi wala naman kaming pinakitang [masama], tapos sasabihin niyo na puwede niyo kaming tapak-tapakan. Bakit, sino ba kayo?” she added.

Seething with anger, Gaviola did not mince her words against the hosts of the podcast show.
