A senior citizen woman and her 43-year-old female housemaid died after being trapped inside a burning house on Don Quijote Street, Barangay 480, Sampaloc, Manila.

The fire broke out at about 12:58 a.m. Saturday and was placed under first alarm by the Manila Fire Department.

The fire did not spread further after fire volunteers and Bureau of Fire Protection personnel quickly responded to the incident.

Authorities said the fire was believed to have started on the first floor of the house, which was made of light materials, including wood and galvanized iron sheets.

The fire was declared out at about 1:32 a.m.

Authorities had yet to determine the cause of the fire and the value of the property destroyed.

Following the incident, authorities reminded the public to unplug appliances before going to bed to help prevent fires and other accidents.
