The Department of Tourism (DoT) and multimedia company Myriad will launch FunRide PH on 19 December, bringing cyclists past Manila’s historic landmarks and scenic attractions.

Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay and actor-entrepreneur Alden Richards formalized the partnership on 29 October.

Richards, a cycling advocate, will lead the event, which combines domestic tourism, wellness and sustainable mobility under the theme “Moving People, Inspiring Change.”

The ride will start at the Quirino Grandstand and offer three categories: 5 kilometers for beginners, 10 kilometers for intermediate cyclists and 21 kilometers for advanced participants.

Road, mountain, folding and electric bicycles will be allowed.

The proposed route includes Intramuros, Rizal Park, Roxas Boulevard, Manila Bay and the National Museum Complex.

Angara-Mathay said the event would introduce Manila’s attractions from a different perspective while promoting active lifestyles and cycling as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

Richards said the partnership would encourage participants to appreciate the country’s cultural heritage and public spaces.

He added that organizers plan to hold FunRide PH activities in other cities and provinces next year, highlighting local attractions and promoting respect for cyclists.
