Nicholas Hoult is adding another iconic character to his growing list of blockbuster roles.
The actor has officially been cast as Gilderoy Lockhart in Season 2 of HBO’s Harry Potter series, where he will take on the role of the vain, charismatic wizard introduced in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Lockhart arrives at Hogwarts as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, dazzling students with his fame and bestselling books. But beneath his polished image lies a very different truth, making him one of the franchise’s most unforgettable characters.
The role was previously portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 film adaptation, earning praise for his scene-stealing performance as the self-obsessed wizard.
For Hoult, the casting marks yet another leap into a major franchise. After recently portraying Lex Luthor in Superman, he now crosses into the Wizarding World for HBO’s ambitious television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved novels.
