ILOILO CITY — At least 81 families were affected after a tornado toppled trees and electrical posts and scattered debris across several areas of Iloilo City, Mayor Raisa Treñas said Sunday.

As of 11 a.m., authorities had recorded 12 incidents involving fallen trees, electrical posts and debris in parts of the Jaro and Mandurriao districts.

Barangay Cubay recorded the highest number of affected families at 54, followed by Benedicto with 20, Balabago with six and Gustilo in La Paz with one.

Some affected families are staying at an activated evacuation center, where the city government is providing sleeping arrangements, hygiene kits and meals through its Community Kitchen.

The city also recorded an initial 52 damaged houses — 48 in Cubay, three in Benedicto and one in Gustilo.

Treñas said the figures remain subject to validation and verification by the City Social Welfare and Development Office and may still change as assessment operations continue.

Clearing and damage assessment are being conducted in coordination with barangay officials, MORE Power, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Department of Public Works and Highways, volunteer groups and other concerned agencies.

Treñas said the city government’s immediate priorities are ensuring the safety of residents, providing assistance to affected families and expediting clearing operations.

She urged residents to remain cautious, particularly in areas where trees or electrical posts have fallen and live wires may be present.

Authorities continue to assess the extent of the tornado’s impact across the city as clearing and emergency response operations remain underway.
