  • Five people were injured, including a woman who remained in critical condition, in two separate vehicular crashes in Pangasinan on 4 August, police said.

The first incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. along the provincial road in Barangay Alac, San Quintin.

Initial investigation showed that a 55-year-old tricycle driver from Tayug was traveling eastbound and had slowed down to make a left turn toward the San Quintin Bus Terminal when his vehicle was rear-ended by a motorcycle driven by a 57-year-old helper from San Quintin.

Both drivers sustained injuries and were taken to the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital in Tayug, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

The tricycle and motorcycle were damaged and later brought to the San Quintin Municipal Police Station for proper disposition. Authorities have yet to determine the estimated cost of the damage.

Later that night, at about 11:10 p.m., another collision occurred along the San Manuel–San Nicolas Road in Barangay San Bonifacio, San Manuel.

Police said a 25-year-old security guard from San Manuel, who was driving a Suzuki Smash motorcycle and was allegedly under the influence of liquor, collided head-on with a Yamaha NMAX motorcycle operated by a 20-year-old female student traveling in the opposite direction. The female rider was accompanied by a 42-year-old woman.

The impact threw both motorcycles to the ground, injuring all three individuals.

The male rider sustained abrasions and a laceration on the back of his head. He was initially treated at the San Manuel Rural Health Unit before being transferred to Sacred Heart Hospital.

The female rider suffered abrasions on her right arm and possible fractures to her right shoulder and right foot, while her passenger sustained multiple abrasions, a fractured right foot, and a laceration on the back of her head.

Both women were later transferred to the Region I Medical Center in Dagupan City for further treatment. Police said the 42-year-old passenger was in critical condition and in a coma upon arrival at the hospital, while both drivers remained conscious.

Both motorcycles also sustained damage and were taken to the San Manuel Municipal Police Station as authorities continue their investigation.
