Police have identified all six suspects involved in the deadly ambush of political vlogger Alicia “Mima Alicia” Lipata, including the alleged mastermind, with three individuals currently in custody, officials announced Monday.
Speaking at a press briefing at Camp Crame, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said investigators have established the motive for the crime and filed charges with the Caloocan Prosecutor’s Office.
Five of the six individuals involved have been publicly identified by name or role.
To recall, Lipata was shot 17 July by two assailants riding tandem on a motorcycle. A week later, police arrested suspects after reviewing closed-circuit television footage along the route.
Northern Police District director Brig. Gen. Benliner Capili said murder and frustrated murder charges were filed 24 July in Caloocan City against gunman Manolito Susano and his alleged cohort, Juan Alan de Guzman.
A third suspect, identified as the middleman, surrendered voluntarily to the Mabalacat police station before being turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
Capili said the middleman relayed information and transferred money to Susano, revealing that the contract price to kill Lipata was P250,000.
According to Capili, the unnamed middleman knew the alleged masterminds, a couple to whom Lipata was indebted.
