  • Two experts from Singapore shared how their country manages flood during the 2026 Stormwater Summit in Makati City on 21 July.

Ryan Yuen, managing director of Singapore’s National Water Agency, presented his country’s integrated water strategy that the Philippines can adopt to manage flooding. He explained that they reuse water over and over to ensure both a sustainable water supply and the proper management of coastal and inland flood.

In his presentation, Yuen showed Singapore’s former Marina Bay that was dammed to become the country’s main freshwater reservoir.

Meanwhile, April Yang, CEO of engineering and water-technology company Flexi Systems and FloodX, discussed available innovations protecting businesses, facilities and homes from flood. The company specializes in integrated environmental and digital solutions for stormwater treatment and erosion control management applications.

According to Yang, their technologies curb soil erosion and prevent silt-contaminated runoff from entering public drainage systems and natural waterways. Examples are perimeter cut-off drains, silt fences, specialized systems for treating silty water, and adjustable flood barriers for doorways.

She also suggested that the Philippines come up with siltation legislation to implement stormwater management solutions.
