BYD Cars Philippines has introduced the updated Seal 5 DM-i, which now comes in Essential and Dynamic variants. The plug-in hybrid sedan follows the model first launched locally in 2024.
Both versions use BYD’s fifth-generation Super DM-i technology, although their battery capacities and electric driving ranges differ.
The Essential carries a 7.42-kWh Blade Battery and can travel up to 55 kilometers on electric power. The Dynamic gets a larger 18.3-kWh battery that raises the electric range to 115 kilometers.
Once the available battery charge drops, the gasoline engine and hybrid system allow the car to continue running.
BYD also tested the Seal 5 DM-i during an efficiency run held with the Automobile Association Philippines.
The sedan recorded a combined driving range of up to 2,181 kilometers. Actual range will still depend on traffic, speed, road conditions and driving habits.
The updated model measures 4,780 mm long, which places it among the larger sedans available near the P1-million mark. Its trunk can hold 522 liters with the rear seats in use.
Folding them increases the available cargo capacity to 1,295 liters, which may appeal to families and businesses that need more room for luggage or goods.
Cabin equipment includes an 8.8-inch digital instrument display and a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, while USB ports allow passengers to charge their devices. Automatic climate control and rear air vents are also included on both variants.
Standard safety features include cruise control, a tire pressure monitoring system and rear parking sensors. The Seal 5 DM-i also has vehicle dynamic control, hill hold control, automatic vehicle hold and multiple airbags.
BYD Cars Philippines is offering both variants at introductory prices until 31 August, although the company’s announcement did not state the discounted amounts.
Regular pricing takes effect on 1 September. The Essential will carry a suggested retail price of P948,000, while the Dynamic will cost P1.048 million.
The price gap between the two versions is P100,000. Buyers who mainly cover shorter daily routes may find the Essential’s 55-kilometer electric range sufficient.
The Dynamic offers more room to complete longer commutes without using gasoline, provided the battery is regularly charged.
Each Seal 5 DM-i comes with an eight-year warranty for the drive unit. BYD also provides a six-year or 160,000-kilometer bumper-to-bumper warranty and an eight-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty for the Blade Battery.
Available colors are Deep Sea Blue, Cosmos Black, Atlantis Gray and Harbour Gray.
The updated Seal 5 DM-i made its public appearance at the BYD Tech Tour at the TriNoma Activity Center. The event runs until 2 August.
