BAGUIO CITY — Inflation in Baguio City and the broader Cordillera Administrative Region eased in June, driven primarily by falling petroleum prices, according to data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Baguio City recorded an inflation rate of 6.7 percent in June, down from 7 percent in May, while the overall regional inflation rate slowed to 6.5 percent from 6.8 percent the previous month, reported PSA Cordillera Senior Statistician Aldrin Federico Bahit Jr.

The statistical agency attributed the regional slowdown to significant drops in energy and fuel costs.

In Baguio City, diesel inflation fell sharply to 25.8 percent in June from 46.7 percent in May, while gasoline inflation slowed to 38.5 percent from 47.9 percent.

Regionwide figures reflected similar price declines across diesel, gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas.

Despite the broader drop in fuel-driven inflation, prices for several consumer goods and services continued to rise.

Rice inflation in the region rose to 7.5 percent in June from 6.6 percent in May.

Price increases were also recorded for vegetables, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products and restaurant and accommodation services. Conversely, price growth for fish, housing and utility expenses slowed over the same period.

Across the region’s provinces, Ifugao registered the lowest inflation rate in June at 3.7 percent, while Apayao recorded the highest at 15 percent.
