Star Magic’s biggest celebrity basketball spectacle is taking on an international twist as its stars prepare to face Thailand’s GMMTV in a highly anticipated exhibition game, giving fans a rare crossover between two of Southeast Asia’s leading entertainment companies.
Leading the ABS-CBN squad as playing coach, Gerald Anderson said the matchup goes beyond friendly competition, calling it an opportunity to represent both Star Magic and the network on a bigger stage.
“It’s a great event. It’s a global, international event. We’re going to represent Star Magic and ABS-CBN.”
Anderson also praised the collaboration, saying the special game was created to give supporters something fresh and memorable while expanding the reach of the long-running Star Magic All-Star Games.
“ABS-CBN and Star Magic gumawa sila ng paraan para magbigay sila ng ibang event sa mga audience natin. I think they deserve it, yung mga fans, yung audience, yung supporters ng ABS at Star Magic.”
Joining the lineup is Ronnie Alonte, who returns to competitive basketball after stepping away from the sport for a year. The actor admitted he is eager to get back on the hardwood and reunite with teammates under Anderson’s leadership.
Keeping the mood light, Alonte joked that the visiting squad might enjoy overwhelming crowd support.
“Mangyayari ang dapat mangyari. Kahit na 80% Thailand talaga kayo.”
Despite the playful remark, he said the team’s focus remains on enjoying the experience while giving their best in front of fans.
“Enjoy lang. Excited na kami. Isang taon na akong nagpahinga so ito yung first time ko mag-basketball ulit. Excited ako kasi si Gerald parang halos ngayon lang din nagkampi.”
Confident in Star Magic’s roster, Alonte emphasized the group’s dedication to the sport and their determination to put on an entertaining and competitive performance.
“We have a strong team. I’m passionate about basketball. I respect basketball.” he said.
