TACLOBAN CITY – A minor who posted a threat of violence on a public high school in Palompon, Leyte was identified and brought into the custody of the municipal social welfare and development office for investigation and intervention.
Palompon Mayor Mary Dominique Oñate the minor, using a dummy account “Alyas Delacruz” was identified on Thursday before noon and was brought MSWDO.
Oñate assured the public that the incident will not happen again.
The threat was discovered on Wednesday, July 8, when the minor posted in Facebook in dialect that since it is done with Tacloban, next target is Palompon. The post put a hashtag “bullying” and pinned Palompon National High School as its location.
Despite the threat though, Oñate announced on Wednesday evening that there will be no suspension of classes.
“We know this has caused fear among our families and our school communities, and we are not dismissing that fear. But we will not let it dictate how we run this town,” Oñate stated in her FB post.
“Palompon will not cancel a single day of learning over an anonymous, unverified threat. To do so would only reward whoever is behind this post,” she added.
While classes went uninterrupted, Oñate ordered an enhanced security measures in all its national high school requiring all students to wear identification card while in school and allow security to conduct a thorough check of their bags at the gate.
“Sowing fear in a peaceful community is not a joke, and it will not go unanswered. We will not condone any person, identity, or group that tries to spread fear in this town,” Oñate said.
The administration of Palompon National High School confirmed that the individual who posted the threat has been identified by the authorities.
However, it clarified that culprit was “not a student, employee, or n anyway affiliated with Palompon National High School.”
