Actress Nadine Lustre has scored a legal victory in her online harassment case, saying she hopes the outcome sends a strong message that abusive behavior on social media should never go unpunished.
Speaking at a thanksgiving media conference, Lustre said she pursued legal action not only for herself but also for survivors of abuse and others who may have been affected by similar online attacks.
“I think I did it because obviously number one isn’t right to do that. Second, I felt responsible for the comment and I want to do something about it because parang hindi ma-stomach iyong injustice knowing na some people went through that,” she said.
She added that she wanted to prove that internet users cannot hide behind anonymous accounts to escape responsibility for their actions.
“I just wanted to let people know na even if you’re hiding behind the screen, hindi puwedeng magsasalita ka ng whatever. Parang there has to be an accountability and I am all for social media being a safe space for everyone,” Lustre said.
The actress revealed that although the suspect’s account contained little public information, her legal team was able to identify the individual and proceed with the case.
According to Lustre, the case has already been resolved after the man accepted responsibility. As part of the court’s ruling, he was ordered to undergo rehabilitation and attend gender sensitivity seminars.
“Obviously even if you look at it in different ways parang hindi talaga okay iyong sinabi niya so he was given a sentence and a rehabilitation as well and he will go to seminars on gender sensitivity and all that,” she shared.
Lustre said the man eventually apologized, but noted that the offensive comment had already caused distress, particularly among survivors of abuse who reached out to her after seeing the post.
Reflecting on the experience, the actress also expressed concern over the growing culture of hostility on social media, especially its impact on younger users who are constantly exposed to criticism and online judgment.
For Lustre, her courtroom victory is more than a personal win—it is a reminder that harmful online behavior carries real-world consequences and that accountability is essential to making digital spaces safer for everyone.
