Boosting power reliability in Laguna. The uprating of a portion of the Dila-Real 115 kV line features the installation of high-capacity HTLS STACIR conductors, enhancing the reliability of Meralco’s sub-transmission system and ensures stable electricity supply for key areas in Laguna, including Calamba, Los Baños, Bay, Pila and Calauan.
Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has placed emergency response crews on standby as Super Typhoon Inday and the enhanced southwest monsoon threaten to disrupt power supply, assuring customers of immediate response to electricity service interruptions while urging the public to take precautions against electrical hazards.
The power distributor said Wednesday it is closely monitoring weather updates after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned of heavy rainfall and strong to gale-force winds that could affect areas within its franchise.
“As a 24-hour service company, our crews are ready to attend to any possible electricity service concern in areas that might be affected by the inclement weather,” Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said.
Meralco said it has implemented measures to reduce the impact of severe weather on its distribution network, including issuing electrical safety advisories and coordinating with stakeholders to minimize storm-related risks.
“Meralco has consistently requested billboard owners and operators to temporarily roll up their billboards to prevent these structures from being toppled by the strong winds,” Zaldarriaga said.
The company also reminded customers to switch off the main power supply or circuit breaker during flooding, unplug electrical appliances, and ensure all wiring and equipment are completely dry before using them again.
Flood-damaged electrical systems and appliances should first be inspected by a licensed electrician, it added.
To help residents stay informed during possible outages, Zaldarriaga urged the public to keep communication lines open by fully charging mobile phones, laptops, radios, and other communication devices.
Customers may also monitor public service radio stations for updates if power interruptions occur.
